NAS...NO IDEA'S ORIGINAL...LARGE PROFESSOR REMIX

Here’s an exclusive remix of Gnozir’s “No Ideas Original” produced by the one and only Large Pro for an identically titled remix project from DJ Teddy King and Boundless Music. King basically grabbed a bunch of  Gnozir a capellas and dialed up a few producer buddies to have their way with them. The results are mixed as you would expect, but there are definitely some gems including this and a mean remix of “Fast Life” by Geng Grizzly. Preview both songs below and hit the jump for the mixtape tracklist and download link.

THINGS I NEED ON MY FEET::THE NEW BALANCE EDITION

Initially spotted earlier in the year, the latest collaboration from Parisian boutique colette and creative firmLa MJC finally sees an official release as the year draws to a close. Working with the popular 1500, both companies develop a simple but outstanding colorway in the New Balance runner. Dubbed the “Vivre Sans Temps Mort”, meaning Life Without Dead Time in French, the design pays tribute to the joint website Wesoldout.com, founded by La MJC and colette in 2006, which no longer exists today. The Flimby-made design will see a release on Saturday, December 18th exclusively via colette and on the Cool Cats website. Each pair will feature three sets of laces, including: white, red and gray.

CHRIS READ X CLASSIC MATERIAL(THEDIGGERSUNION.COM)

The latest edition of Chris Read’s Classic Material series is finally here. Enjoy the sounds of Hip Hop from the year 1989. Enjoy and be educated.
Edition #3 of our monthly Classic Material series pays tribute to the hip hop of 1989, another year in which the genre’s dominant sounds changed drastically. As the James Brown influenced sound that had dominated the late 80s played out its final days, producers from all corners of the genre turned their attentions to sampling the bass heavy West Coast sound of Parliament, Funkadelic and Zapp. Acts such as De La Soul and the Jungle Brothers burst on to the scene injecting a light hearted honesty into their lyrical content which paved the way for the emerging ‘new school’ sound of the early 90s. Early releases from the likes of X Clan hinted at the ‘afrocentric’ sound that would come to prominence in the following years.

HIEROGLYPHICS X GOLD GOLD COIN X HIERO MAN COLLECTION

The Hieroman Collection is a collaborative project between the legendary Hieroglyphics crew and clothing label Gold Coin. With both brands being Bay Area natives it was only a matter of time before their paths would cross. Each company came to the table with their own styles and backgrounds. After sitting down the joined creative force grew beyond what either brand had expected. The natural progression was to not only release a single collaborative product but a capsule collection. The outcome is a jointly branded micro product line, anchored by the iconic Hieroglyphics logo immortalized into the “Hieroman” vinyl. Two colorways are now available, exclusively through the brand’s online store.

GATORADE X GO ALL DAY X NIGEL SYLVESTER

Gatorade Go All Day - Nigel Sylvester in Japan from Defgrip on Vimeo.

Gatorade has spent many years researching and understanding what goes on in traditional athletes bodies when they are doing their sports. Gatorade and their sport scientists have a pretty good idea about what’s going on with their traditional athletes… Action sports on the other hand, that’s a totally different story. This year, Gatorade’s theme is “Go All Day.” In celebrating that theme, Gatorade wanted to start doing research on the non-traditional sports like BMX, so they hit up team rider Nigel Sylvester and asked him: If you could go anywhere in the world to ride bikes with friends, where would you go? After lots of research and different ideas being thrown around, Japan was chosen as the destination. To document the trip, Gatorade invited a few key BMX media outlets, including Defgrip, to go along for the ride. This video documents the trip, from the riding and research, to the culture and adventures. Enjoy!

SPIKE LEE::DO THE RIGHT THING...THE BOOK

Celebrating just more than 20 years since its seminal debut, Do The Right Thing remains one of the most important and controversial films of its era. Employing director Spike Lee’s hometown of Brooklyn as the essential setting, this explosive film masterfully explores race and class relationships. Both a critical and popular success, Do The Right Thing became a landmark film that brought serious issues in the African American community to light and established Lee as a major director in American cinema. Lee also wrote the screenplay, produced, and even starred in this deeply personal film, which was applauded for its commanding visuals provided by Danny Aiello and John Turturro, and an assertive soundtrack featuring Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power.” Including an unprecedented insider’s look at the film, with behind-the-scenes visuals and interviews, this impressive book celebrates the impact of Do The Right Thing on our culture throughout the years. The film is even credited with bringing President Barack Obama and the First Lady together on their first date. Available now through Amazon.
