high school. Later he was convicted on drug charges and served ten

Fight the Feelin', which included the hits "Playaz Club", the "Dank

The Heavenly Renaissance Presents "Forever I Love Atlanta" | Dj Spinna "Best of Sade" Mixtape

What's the word my good peoples. Hope you all had a wonderful memorial day weekend. Mine was spent on the road with Keri Hilson. We hit 3 cities in as many days(Greensboro,Atlantic City,New York City).

While I was in New York I made it my job to listen to both radio stations(Power 105 and Hot 97). Both stations were featuring a memorial day megamix, and I can't lie both stations were killing it. Sometimes when I come to NY and listen to the radio I get dissapointed, but not this trip. Every dj on every station was going in. I loved the diversity on air, they went from the hoodest of the hood records to the Pussy Cat Dolls. How come Atlanta radio can't be that diverse, especially on big mixshow weekends.

Now for the mixtape side of things. Some dj's may not have the name of a Kid Capri or Clue, but they still may end up being one of your favorites. That title fits when it comes to describing my man DJ SPINNA. Repping Brooklyn to the fullest,SPINNA is no stranger to the game. He's been killing the house remix side for a minute, now he dropped a timeless best of Sade mixtape. As always, download now and thank me later.

We have been dropping little hints about our next Heaven event. We have been slowly letting the cat out of the bag,but now its time to go full steam ahead. Friday June 5,THE HEAVENLY RENAISSANCE CREW PRESENTS...Forever I Love Atlanta(F.I.L.A.). That's right ya'll, we are doing it for the home team. We are doing it for the city we all come to know as home. We are doing this one for all my Grady Babies, all my Atliens.

Musically Atlanta has contributed so much to the game. From Cameo to Outkast, from Joy to Jeezy. From Ludachris to Left eye, from Usher to Gucci Mane. Yup,next friday we are going all the way in. Expect more details and more excitement from the crew you all love. But most importantly I expect to see you all at "THE HEAVENLY RENAISSANCE PRESENTS...FOREVER I LOVE ATLANTA". Next friday, june 5 at 595 North Lounge

I put the DJ in front of Roddy Rod for reason,it kind of signifies how long ive known him. Damn near 20 years, now that i think about it. Coming from Springfield,Mass. it feels good to see one of your peoples make it. especially one who has been down since day one. This is a rerelease from his lp "Cuba After Market", a downtempo musical master piece. Do yourself a favor and do the knowledge to it.

THURSDAY MORNING THROWDOWN::THE RICK FLAIR EDITION

This dude talks more shit than a little bit. watch the clib and see what im saying..."i got more cars than you have friends". Wow.Kanye has nothing on this dude!

REDMAN Y METHOD MAN LIVE

Here is the performance that has everyone up in arms. I hear both arguements, but i think i am going to side with Questlove on this. In my opinion, the purpose of the live performance is to give the audience something extra. If you perform the record at the same pace that it sounds on the radio, then what makes the performance so special. I feel like you should put some spice on your stage show.

Kid Capri on WBLS

What's good party people, its another week and www.historyofmixtapes.com is back in the building. This week we have two featured mixes. One from Kid Capri and the second from Dj Trauma. Both of which are well worth the download,so get you're ipods ready.

When you talk about mixtapes you have to include radio shows as well. I'm not sure what it was like in any other city, but a copy of a new york hip hop radio show was more than worth its weight in gold. Thanks to my man Al Lindstrom,I got my hands on this classic Kid Capri tape from WBLS.

The tape was recorded in the early 90's,92 I believe. After listening to this tape I can clearly see the difference between 98.7 KISS and WBLS. Although 'BLS had the better stable of dj's,KISS had more personality on the air. It had to be hard as hell for Red Alert to compete against Marley Marl,Mr. Magic,Pete Rock,Kevy Kev,Clark Kent,Kid Capri and Ron G. Kid Capri has mad personality,by this time he was murdering HBO'S DEF COMEDY JAM. But on the radio the powers that be wouldn't let his personality shine. When you listen to the mix you will hear very few drops to signify who is rocking. Regardless of that, the value is actually owning a rare Kid Capri WBLS radio mix. And because of my good friend Al Lindstrom and www.historyofmixtapes.com you now do.

THE G..G..GENIUS...TAKE US THE F*CK OUTTA HERE!

The Genius, aka the GZA, was the most cerebral MC in the Wu-Tang Clan, as well as perhaps the most acclaimed. His cool, precise flow and intricate, literate rhymes weren't as theatrical as Method Man or Ol' Dirty Bastard, the two biggest commercial stars to spring from the collective. But among hip-hop aficionados, the Genius was revered for his flawless technique and lyrical dexterity, and was considered by many to be the best pure rapper in the entire Clan. Produced mostly by Easy Mo Bee, the album flopped badly and, creatively, did little to hint at the Genius' future standing. Conflicts with the label sent the Genius packing, and he reteamed with a similarly disenchanted RZA (fresh off a failed stint with Tommy Boy) and Ol' Dirty Bastard to co-found the Wu-Tang Clan. Adding six other friends and associates, the group became an underground sensation and took the rap world by storm with its 1993 debut, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) Their innovative contract allowed each member to sign a solo deal with whatever label they chose, and the Genius wound up on Geffen. In 1994, his first post-Wu solo track, "I Gotcha Back," appeared on the soundtrack of the film Fresh. His second solo album, Liquid Swords, followed in 1995 and was hailed as a hip-hop classic thanks to its coolly understated menace.

WEST COAST WEDNESDAYS::THE SCARFACE AND TUPAC EDITION

West Up Bloggers!!!!
After spending a weekend back home on the West Coast, man do I miss
it!!!!! LA has changed but in some ways is still the same. The West
Coast Radio still rocks and supports its artists from Snoop, DJ Quik,
E-40, Dr Dre and of course 2pac. This week I wanted to play a 2pac
collabo w/ another top 10 rapper of all time- Scarface. The music
video released in 1997, after 2pacs death, the fact that he appears in
this video is one of the causes for the many 2pac conspiracy theories.
Also featured on the song is Johhny P, who was known to sing on great
tracks with Do or Die, Twista and others. But beside all of that, this
was a great song with 2pac being the poet, and Scarface being the
storyteller. One of my favorite collabos between the West and South.

THE DIABOLICAL BIZ MARKIE..GOIN OFF!

I kinda feel Joe on this one,i understand but recognize the opinions of some of these bloggers. If they werent getting a paycheck, would they be this interested in hip hop...um i doubt it. Oh yeah,Joey will be in the book. The interview is already done.

THINGS I LIKE ON MY FEET::THE DEF JAM X ADIDAS EDITION

With legendary record label Def Jam celebrating the quarter century mark later this year, adidas Originals are teaming up with the New York based label who has housed many of hip-hop’s finest acts to create a pretty strong collection of footwear and apparel. The in-line releases feature the obvious in the Superstar alongside familiar basketball highlights like the Forum Mid. However some other styles are also thrown into the mix like our favorite the Nizza as well as the Samba. Going further in-depth are artist collabos with Redman, Method Man, Young Jeezy and Ghostface Killah. The collection is slated for a 09-10 fall/winter release.

Top 5 Atlanta Clubs of All Time | Dj 45 X Pete Rock & CL Smooth

Happy wednesday folks, and yup you guessed it. Its time to hear my random thoughts. I've gotten a lot of positive feedback on my email campaign lately. Thank you to all who read what I have to say as opposed to just downloading the tapes I push out. Thanks to all the websites who post what I write and put out there, but still give me credit. Thanks to the homie DJ SENSE for the invite to do my first interview on Shade 45. By next weeks blast I will have the entire interview up for your listening pleasure.

Last weeks e blast listed a few things I felt was wrong with Atlanta's nightlife. Well this week I'm going to do a list 5, of what I consider to have been the, top clubs in the city. I know some of you are going to argue my point,I hope you do. But for now, read on.

My list is in no particular order by the way:

1-Club Fritz//559(Ashby st):: One of the gulliest clubs on the planet, but if you were from any hood in the A you had to be there. Historically it was the first club I ever spun in,I only spun there twice. But Dj Jelly and them had that place on fire.

2-The Warehouse//Pheonix:: You could put there friday night up against any hip hop party, any where in the country. One of the best venues for a real hip hop show. Everyone performed there(A Tribe Called Quest,BIG,Craig Mack,Luke,Blackmoon,Lost Boyz,Kid Capri,Ron G). I was a spectator back then,I couldn't compete with Lil Jon,Searcy,Dose,Sol Messiah,Shakim, none of them.

3-Soho:: From fall of 94-95(Spring),this club was the shit on Thursday nights. I feel like this club started the hip hop ballin that goes on now. Everyone partied there, and partied hard. Favorite memory was the night of the Brat's "Give it to you" video afterparty. Everyone who was in the video was at the party...oh yeah, and I had Mary dancing on the tables.

4-Atlanta Live:: This club made everyone feel like a star, for real. Trauma and DC used to spin there on saturday nights,it was a problem. The baddest chicks in the south used to party there,no joke. Live performances by Prince,Heavy D,Nas,Foxy Brown, you name it they partied there. And the women, omg!

5-Kaya//Chilli Pepper:: I can't disrespect any of these places, they are the last true hip hop clubs that Atlanta has seen. Let's start with the Chilli Pepper, every Tuesday night it was popping. Real dj's,real party people and a whole lot of fun. It was the spot where Kid Capri came to party when he was intown,I know cuz I was dj'ing when he walked in the club. It was the spot that made Nas give an impromptu performance. I know because I was on the wheels. Thanks to the Midnight Marauders crew.

Now Kaya was a whole 'nother animal. The best dj line up I have ever seen in my life. Oh,you wanna argue? Put a team together that actually was on the same bill each and every sunday...DJ NABS,KEMIT,DOC,JAY CEE, and me...DJ MARS. Excuse my language, but who is fucking with that...um,ill wait til you try and figure it out...NOONE STUPID! Hip hop partying at its best, remember we had Jay Z,Run Dmc,Whodini,Dmx,Ja Rule, Jazzy Jeff, and that's just who I remember.

If the list went to 10 clubs I would add the following::

Visions

Essos

The Bounce

Flavors//The Atrium

The original Velvets

We got a lot of history hear folks, stay with me. And now for the mixtape portion of the e blast. How many of you all know the name of EPMD'S first dj. Take a second to think...um,for you so called hip hip heads its DJ K-LA BOSS. How many of you know the name of Lil Waynes dj...um think hard now,its DJ 4-5. How many of you know that's the same person...I'm sure none of you. Do your homework. My man 4-5 aka DJ K-LA BOSS aka I've been the # 1 tour dj on the planet since 1987 is still smashing em and still releavant in this world we call hip hop. I know because I've been on several tours with him.

Every tour he's one he come through with a batch of flavorful mixtapes. Today I dug up one of my favorites..."THE MAKINGS OF YOU...THE BEST OF PETE ROCK AND CL SMOOTH". Nothing but pure mc'ing and dj'ing right here yall. If you've forgotten PR and CL's contribution to hip hop, well here you go. As I always say, download now and thank me later.
