Off The Wall Michael Jackson Tribute | Dj Jaycee "Soulful Years" Mixtape

I usually don't send out 2 blast's per week but I don't think you all will mind. There's really not to much I can say about the news we all heard other than I wish it didn't happen. Death is inevitable, but we all still feel the pain from it. For music lover's across the globe,Mike was the man. As a kid growing up in the 80's,Mike was the ultimate.

I'm sure across the galaxy there will be a million extended Micheal Jackson sets in every club this weekend. Mike gave us so much music,he gave us so much to groove to. From a dj's perspective Mike kind of made it easy for me to do my job while I was in the club. For every club promoter,Mike you made our parties better. I can say that with pure honesty and love. My family of brothers(The FCC,Atlbarz,J.Carter,Marco Johnson,Fadia,Luther@Prophecy,AG ent,and Certified Crunk),we all have benefitted from Mikes greatness.

Well I'm not going to talk you all's ears off today,I'll just let the music do the talking. With all of that being said, here's a few pieces of MJ related information that I am sure you will like.

The Bounce Master Doo Wop

What's good party people, you already know what it is. www.historyofmixtapes.com is back in the building. Fresh off the Keysha Cole//Keri Hilson tour,I'm ready to start the summer off right. Thank you to all of the supporters of the blog site as well as those who regularly read my emails. I really appreciate your time and energy. Today I have 30,000 plus views of the site. It may be small to some but that's a lot in my eyes. I plan to reach 150k by the sites birthday, which is late fall. Again thank each and every one of you.

As usual,on to todays mixtape business. Todays mixtape coverage comes from my man Doo Wop. I was finally able to secure my interview with him for the book. Honestly ya'll,Doo Wop was probably one of the best interviews we've had so far. He was extremely articulate, incredibly honest about his history. He answered every question thrown his way. The book is shaping up to be a nice capsule of our hip hop history.

So as we continue to celebrate the interview, here's a classic tape from my files...Wopduism(I hope I spelled that right). Another one of the many classics that my man Doo Wop has blessed us with. Don't front, before the title was taken to Queens Doo Wop had the game in a smash. He went after Capri and won, then introduced us to the bounce squad. As I always say, download now and thank me later!

GRAND PUBA X THE GOLDEN ERA

Maxwell Dixon, better known as Grand Puba, is best-known for fronting Brand Nubian for the group's first album — and the excellent full-blown reunion album, 1998's Foundation — but he actually made his commercial debut with the Masters of Ceremony, a group who released a 1988 album (Dynamite) on 4th & Broadway. Puba went solo with 1992's Reel to Reel, which featured the excellent singles "360 Degrees (What Goes Around)" and "Check It Out" (with Mary J. Blige). Never the most prolific rap artist, it took three years for a sophomore release (1995's 2000), and his third album (the lackluster Understand This) didn't come until 2001. Throughout his career, his lyrical schemes have been drizzled with the influence of his Nation of Islam beliefs.

DJ Soul & Big L (Rest In Peace)

What's good world, summer is finally here for all and it looks like its going to be a good one. Well as of last friday night the hip hop world has finally been set on fire. Jay Z did what was needed for hip hop,and that was give it an energy boost.

Aside from splashing on all things wrong with the current state of hip hop,Jay brought more light to another subject that is a little more relative to this blog. The fact that within the song "Death of Autotune" he shouted out Funkmaster Flex,Dj Mister Cee,and Khaled was a big look for all of us. By him mentioning those names it meant to me that we are all still important.

Contrary to popular belief radio stations don't really respect us(dj's). They employ us but don't really respect us,that's evident in the way the pay us and the way they treat us. I've heard program directors tell there dj's that they can't shout out there dj crew affiliations on the air,and that they can't use personal drops. Along with the extremely low pay(usually $10-$20 per hour),they treat us like they don't need us. In my opinion, the hotter the dj is the more fans he will attract. Dj's become hot because of there affiliations. Look at Flex and Mister Cee's affiliation with Jay Z. There relationship made it so that Hot 97 in New York was the most listened to and watched(via youtube)radio station on the planet last friday. You wanna argue, look at it like this. In order for you to have heard the song you had to hear a rip of it from Hot 97. Unless of course you heard it live in New York. The only way to watch the in studio reaction to Flex and Cee,was to watch it on youtube. Every hip hop blog on the planet posted a rip of the song and the youtube clip on there site. Thus making them the most listened to radio station on the planet.

I can go on for days and days about the subject, but for now I will just fall back and focus on todays mixtape subject. Which leads me to my man Dj Soul(NYC),have you all heard his Big L tribute tape? Well just to give you all a little background on the definition of the tape,Big L was shot nearly ten years ago. His birthday recently passed, may 30th,so this is not just a tribute but also a birthday presents to one of Harlems finest. The tape consists of all original material, songs, freestyles, and live concert recordings. If you know hip hop then you know Big L. If not ladies and gentlemen here is a proper introduction. As I always say, download now and thank me later.
